Joseph Gledhill and his descendants
Ambrose Gleadall (possibly Gleaddall), born in or near Sheffield, Yorkshire, in 1810 or 1811, who married a Hannah Sheppherd or Shepphard, emigrated to the United States, settling in Highland County, Ohio.

Martha Whitehead checked out the Gledhill's in the 1880 Ohio Census and found:
1) The Joseph Gledhill in Carroll County was 48 and born in England.
2) The George H. (turned out to be W.) Gledhill in Columbiana County was 29 and born in Massachusetts.
3) The John Gledhill in Crawford County was 34 and born in Ohio. The Joseph Gledhill in Crawford County was 48 and also born in Ohio. And the Mary Gledhill from Crawford County was 78 and born in England. She had
another son, William aged 42 born in Ohio, living in the same household. Suspect that this John and Joseph are other sons of this particular Mary Gledhill. They are all in the same county and township. Additionally, since John and Mary are on the same page, they were probably living close together, which also makes one suspect a family relationship.
4) The John M. Gledhill in Portage County was 41 and born in England. The Joseph Gledhill in Portage County was 42 and born in England. The Sarah Gledhill from Portage County was 30 and born in Ohio.
5) The Henrietta Gledhill from Richland county was 26 and born in England. She is a border, living with a Physician by the name of John Stuart and his family. The Humphrey Gledhill from Richland is Lloyd Gledhill's Humphrey, as are the Walter Gledhill in Richland County who is 59 and born in England. He is living with his wife Mary H. and sons John J., aged 29, and Tho. H., aged 20.
